Kentucky Department of Transportation will move the Governor Ruby Laffoon marker from the courthouse yard to the front yard of the Ruby Laffoon Cabin on Union Street, right next to the Historical Society Museum. and then we will re-dedicate it with a little ceremony. Quoting our Hopkins County Historian Carl Veazey – “On May 17 at 2 p.m. we’re having a little “reinstallation ceremony.” It just seems like that’s where the marker ought to be. You all are cordially invited to attend. We especially invite anybody who’s a relative of the late governor. So far, that includes Frankie Spain and Hugh Wayne Offutt. Surely there are more of you out there. Hope to see you.”
Currently the upstairs museum is closed to the public as inventory and rearrangement continues. Society members there is still time to volunteer and there are several hours of work needed before it can be set up for display again so remember many hands make light work.
